Just a few months following the presidential inauguration on May 29, 2023, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressed appreciation for his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, commending him for refraining from involvement in the formation of Tinubu’s 48-member cabinet.
Tinubu conveyed his gratitude during the launch of the book, ‘Working with Buhari: Reflections of A Special Adviser, Media, and Publicity (2015-2023),’ penned by the former presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, in Abuja on Tuesday.
During his speech, Tinubu recalled Buhari’s post-handover assurance, stating, “After handing over, you (Buhari) said, ‘I will be far away in Daura, but if you need me, contact me. I won’t intrude in whatever you are doing. I won’t interfere. I won’t breathe down on your throat.'”
Expressing their collaborative efforts in fostering democracy in Nigeria, Tinubu extended his gratitude, highlighting Buhari’s hands-off approach to cabinet matters. He emphasized that, apart from occasional personal inquiries about Buhari’s well-being, there was no interference or complaints from the former president regarding cabinet nominations or other issues. Tinubu concluded with appreciation, thanking Buhari for his exemplary conduct.
